Verizon Wireless To Introduce ‘Any Apps, Any Device’ Option For Customers In 2008

Seems that the US wireless market iceberg is beginning to melt...thanks Google!

Verizon Wireless today announced that it will provide customers the option to use, on its nationwide wireless network, wireless devices, software and applications not offered by the company. Verizon Wireless plans to have this new choice available to customers throughout the country by the end of 2008.

Well...only for CDMA capable phones that have been tested & approved by Verizon.

It's definitely an improvement, but I'm interested in seeing the reality and how much it really opens things up. For example, your ATT or TMobile phone won't work, but your Sprint phone will - if Verizon has tested and approved it.

Also, it's not all Google - apparently the feds were starting to pressure Verizon to open up to the marketplace a bit rather than locking people in with their phones. I hear rumors that they may even support (tahah!) SIM card phones. How modern!
